George A. Gordon collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of letters between George A. Gordon and his family, friends, and employers. The letters cover the time just after the founding of Dahlonega and initial Gold Rush in 1832 and end about 12 years after the Civil War. Of note is a letter asking Gordon to close and lock the Dahlonega Branch Mint and transfer the key to the building's caretaker for safekeeping. There is also a series of letters between Gordon and his wife during the Civil War when Gordon, a captain in the Confederate Army, was stationed in Macon, Georgia.
