George C. Wilson "Mud Soldiers" Manuscripts
Scope and Contents
The George C. Wilson Collection contains correspondence, clippings, photographs, Wilson's personal notebook, and a book contract. Of note is George C. Wilson's signed contract for "Mud Soldiers" with the Macmillan Publishing Company in 1987. Letters exchanged between George Wilson and American soldiers, but active and veterans, are included in the collection.

Biographical / Historical
George C. Wilson was born July 11, 1927 in Orange, New Jersey. During World War 2, he joined the Navy and upon his return, completed a bachelor's degree in English from Bucknell University in 1949. In his early career, Wilson was a reporter for "Congressional Quarterly" and the "Newark Evening News". In 1966, he wrote for "The Washington Post" as a military affairs reporter and national defense correspondent and later went on to write for "National Journal" in 1990. Besides his career in journalism, he also authored "Mud Soldiers" (1989) and "Supercarrier" (1986), which inspired the television show "Supercarrier" in 1988. George C. Wilson passed away February 11, 2014 at the age of 86.
