Biographical / Historical

In 1835, the Dahlonega United Methodist Church was first organized under the pastorate of Henry P. Pitchford, as "Dahlonega Station," Methodist Episcopal Church, (M.E.C., or sometimes seen as M.E. Church) South. Services and meetings during this time up until 1840 were held at the Old Academy Building.
In 1839, under the pastorate of Reuben E. Oslin, property was purchased on Park Street, then in 1840, the first worship building was built.
During 1929-1930, under the pastorate of Jesse B. Smith, the frame-built sanctuary was replaced with a new brick sanctuary. During this reconstruction project, three graves of Revolutionary War soldiers were found and moved to a new location.
In 2008-2009, under the pastorate of Dr. Jeffrey Ross, the former sanctuary was replaced with the current sanctuary. The present sanctuary features artifacts of the previous buildings, including the stained glass memorial windows, the steeple bell, and the Moroccan-style chandeliers.
