The letters cover the time just after the founding of Dahlonega and initial Gold Rush in 1832 and end about 12 years after the Civil War. Of note is a letter asking Gordon to close and lock the Dahlonega Branch Mint and transfer the key to the building's caretaker for safekeeping.
