This collection contains oral histories (video and audio) and scans of photographs related to the history of Lake Lanier and the Buford Dam. The oral histories were collected by students at Gainesville State College between the years 2009-2011.

This collection is completely digital and can be used in the Special Collections and Archives at the Hosch Library on the Gainesville campus of the University of North Georgia.

Historical note

In the1950s a dam was built in Buford, GA to create the reservoir that became Lake Sidney Lanier. The reservoir was created to provide electricity and water for Atlanta. The oral histories and photographs included in this collection tell the story of the the lake and the lands that lie beneath it.
